ð Write an informal simple note
At the beginning of class, the students who were here yesterday helped the ones who were absent write an excuse note. It looked like this:
April 30, 2015
Dear Katie,
I was not in school yesterday. I was absent because I had a doctor’s appointment. Please excuse me.
Sincerely,
Vanesa Smith
After, we completed the presentations from yesterday “What do you do?” with Questions & Answers (Q&A) about "What can she/he do? We got VERY good at listening and understanding. The teacher was very proud of her intelligent class.
Then we worked in groups to think of other Good Excuses for missing work or school: We compared the group list to my list and the students had almost all of the reasons.
Students' Good Excuses for Missing Work
- I am sick.
- I have an appointment. I have to go for medical tests.
- My child is sick.
- It is snowing.
- I have to work.
- My car is not working.
- I don’t have a babysitter.
- My child is at home.
- My husband is in the hospital.

At the end of class, each group drew a picture of a person and had to use the Dictionary p. 110-111 to identfiy 3 illnesses or injuries that the person had. We will present our poor person to the class on Monday.
Weekend Practice: Read about the earthquake. Look for these answers:
1) How many people have died?
2) How many people are injured?
3) What is the army doing?
4) What do survivors need?
5) What scares the rescuers?
6) What do they need now?
TELL US ABOUT THIS STORY ON MONDAY AND I WILL GIVE YOU A PRIZE.
