- Use vocabulary to report an emergency
Key vocabulary: We sorted these words into groups for Fire - Police - Ambulance and talked about how each one is used.
We used All Stars book p. 124 to practice emergency calls. You can practice: 9-1-1 What’s your emergency?
I gave each pair a problem. They had to describe the situation to 9-1-1 and answer questions as in the model. We all practiced saying and spelling our address.
We looked at this site about what is and is NOT an emergency.
One student told us about an accident that we looked at online: http://www.wral.com/wral-tv/video/14420063/
Grammar from dialogues:
1) We changed "you" to "I" and "your" to "my".
2) able to = can unable to = can't
3) When we describe what happened, we use the past tense. We have a list of irregular past tense in our packet.
4) When something is still happening, we use is ______ing. For example, She is bleeding.
5) When the person doesn't understand you, repeat the word and spell it. For example, Glouster "G-l-o-u-s-t-e-r".
6) Say the name, not the abbreviation:
Ave=avenue Ct=court St=street
S=south N=north Ter=terrace
